Rain world is a fantastic and unusual experience. It has a haunting but beautiful soundtrack. The atmosphere is heavy. The art design is gorgeous. And overall a very unique game. The survival mechanic is something that I really enjoyed. The game play focuses on timed cycles. For every cycle you have to eat food to hibernate and move to next cycle. The timer is to the beginning of the rain, which is less of a hindrance and more of just complete obliteration of your entire existence. You still have some time to find shelter and hibernate, but it becomes really difficult to do so as you will die if you dawdle. This fear of time does bring enough tension to keep you engaged.

The difficulty is something important to focus on. I wouldn’t say it is difficult in terms of it’s design. Like all of the major elements of the game’s design are actually challenging. The main issue is the choice of the game’s spawning. Most areas of the game have unique creatures that can only be found in those areas. So you will not see some of the deadliest creatures in the easiest areas. But most of the time creatures will be spawned in different areas or move about. Which will love you hard.
