Project Highrise comes close to the sweet spot for a tycoon/builder simulator: just enough micromanagement to feel like you’re making decisions on a regular basis, not so much micromanagement that you become overwhelmed with trivial tasks. Managing your new skyscraper requires you to juggle a bunch of different things: utilities, tenant happiness, traffic, revenue, etc. When you’re just learning the systems, it’s pretty fun to dig into all of the things you can do and try things out.

Once you’ve gotten the basics, though, the game has a fairly predictable progression. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but after a while it does feel like you’re doing the same things to grow your tower, and if you’re not constantly taking out loans it can also feel like you’re waiting around a bunch.
